In Part 1 (< link the first article) of this series, we explored why getting engaged is a significant occasion to be celebrated. We’ve all seen and admired photos or videos of dream marriage proposals posted on various social media platforms. Perhaps you might be wondering, I want to make my proposal special too – but how?
Before you get too intimidated by how others around you have upped the ante, remember that you aren’t in a competition to win “Best Proposal”. It may be difficult to stop yourself from comparing your proposal ideas with what others have done before. But focus on the fact that behind the glitz and glamour, the proposal is an intimate moment between the both of you.
With that in mind, let’s look at some ways you can plan your own perfect proposal!
#1 Private or Public
Where should this significant moment take place? Should it be somewhere that holds special meaning to the both of you or at a place that has just the right kind of romantic ambience?
The truth is that there isn’t a right answer to this question! In fact, a particular location may have hosted proposals multiple times, but we’re sure that each one would have had their own quirks distinct to each couple!
One factor which can help you decide is choosing between proposing in front of a huge crowd or just an audience of one. If you prefer savouring the moment with just your partner, then you might want to consider a location where you can enjoy some quiet time alone. But if both of you are fans of lively celebrations, then you can think about choosing a public place where there will be many others who can share your joy with you!
#2 Words from the Heart
As we mentioned in Part 1 (< link the first article), obtaining a Built-To-Order (BTO) flat together can be an unspoken agreement to marriage. But is that really how you want to ask your partner to step into the next phase of your relationship together? We think you can definitely do better to make the moment more memorable!
There are many ways you can ask your partner to marry you! While there’s nothing wrong with the traditional “will you marry me”, you can always afford to be creative with your words. For example, what are some activities you enjoy doing together? Maybe you play video games, or do a competitive sport. Is there a way you can weave these hobbies into your proposal for a more personal spin on popping the question? By focusing your proposal on the unique aspects of your relationship, your words are bound to be more heartfelt.
#3 Capturing the Moment
In this day and age, we’re all well equipped to take photos! If you’ve chosen to propose privately, that doesn't mean you won’t be able to take a simple photo to commemorate the moment. If you’re planning on being your own photographer for the day, do remember to bring a tripod for your camera. You might even want to grab a selfie stick for your phone! Have fun with it – happy memories are best captured that way!
If your family and friends are onboard with your plan to propose, you have the advantage of extra sets of helping hands. Ask a few friends if they would like to be your photographers for the day, and let them capture moments throughout the day, from the preparations going on behind the scenes right up to when you propose to your partner! Assistance from your loved ones can also come in handy when it comes to putting up decorations or secretly leading your partner to you when the time is right.
With Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, we hope we’ve answered the question asked in our title! Always celebrate your relationship, and look forward to many more joyful moments together!
